The HUMA network's objectives

The HUMA network is an advocacy project whose main objectives are:
  • Guarantee effective access to health care and prevention for undocumented migrants and asylum seekers on equal grounds as nationals with the same level of resources.
    • equal access to health care for undocumented migrants
    • equal access to health care for asylum seekers
    • address specific needs of vulnerable groups (pregnant women, children and victims of torture)
  • Grant a permit/authorisation to stay to seriously ill undocumented migrants unless it is throughly and objectively proved availability of treatment in country of origin
  • Ensure effective access to health care to foreigners confined in detention centres/waiting areas AND permanent access to detention centres by NGOs

The network

The HUMA network is constituted by 15 NGO members. Médecins du Monde France leads the program together with Medicos del Mundo (Médecins du Monde Spain) and Médecins du Monde Belgium. The delegations and offices of Médecins du Monde in Europe are associated with the project.

Each member has an activity related to health and migration and especially towards undocumented migrants and or asylum seekers. Delegations and offices of Medecins du Monde are generally providing primary health care and leading advocacy on that issue.

The project seeks to extend the network in another countries in Europe such as Slovenia, Hungary, Finland and Austria.

Each member participates to advocacy programs and campaigns, at a European level, on access to health care for undocumented migrants and asylum seekers, contributes to the information and data collection, leads a national advocacy and organizes national events.
